During the last fifteen years GUESS research group is specializing in the diffractive and gradient-index optics, and the following main results are reached:
- The methods of aberration calculation of homogeneous and inhomogeneous optical systems
are developed. Monochromatic aberrations of optical systems up to the seventh order
are calculated by two methods: transferring aberrations from the surface of a preceding optical element
to the surface of the next element or by tracing pseudorays.
The paths of these rays are traced in the approximations of
aberrations of given order.
- The correlation of numerical criteria for evaluating the quality of
a point image is investigated. Quite reliable criteria using the minimum of computer time are given.
- The correction capabilities of diffractive, homogeneous, and
GRIN singlets were considered and compared.
- The methods of aberration correction and design of objectives consisting of spherical
and aspherical surfaces, diffractive and GRIN elements were created.
These, and other principle results of our investigations have been
published in the monograph: G.I.Greisukh, S.T.Bobrov, and S.A.Stepanov, Optics of Diffractive and Gradient-Index Elements and Systems, SPIE PRESS, Bellingham, WA (1997), 414 p.
Today we have new promising ideas, and some of them
have published in Applied Optics, Proc. SPIE and in Journal of Optical Technology
(see Links, Archives).
